Left Face B is a little-known trail that begins along the popular Platteklip Gorge route—often called the “highway up the mountain”—before branching off into a secluded and rarely visited part of Table Mountain.
This spectacular route on the front face of Table Mountain involves a fair amount of scrambling, requiring you to use both hands and feet to ascend rocky sections. One particular pitch can be tricky, especially for shorter hikers. However, as qualified mountain guides, we carry a rope and have the expertise to assist you safely through any challenging sections.
While most of the scrambling is not highly exposed, the trail does feature a narrow ledge traverse. Technically, it’s not difficult, but simply walking along a relatively level path. However, with a steep drop alongside it, therefore this route is unsuitable for those fearing heights. If you’re comfortable with exposure, you’ll be just fine.
For those seeking a real adrenaline rush, the Arrow Face Traverse offers an even more thrilling challenge.
As you progress, the hike includes steep ascents, grassy slopes, and a climb up the Left Face Buttress Gully. Near the top, you’ll navigate an impressive step-around, adding an exciting highlight to the experience. This diverse and rewarding trail offers stunning scenery, a sense of adventure, and plenty of unforgettable photo opportunities.
Once we reach the summit of Table Mountain, we’ll make our way to the Cableway for a well-earned ride down.
